AND INTO 2023……

TEAM ORLANDO

January 13-14 Great to see first timers to the Lodge Robert, Mark, Herbert, Thomas and Kevin make the short hop over from Florida into Guatemala.

A great first day out releasing 9 from 11 out of the 12 sailfish they raised and a nice mahi mahi in the bin…

The cooler water started moving in their second day out squeezing the fishing and slowing it all down with 2 sailfish released  but the mahi bite was strong with 5 in the boat for the day.

A large time had at the Lodge and out there on Allure II!

From Herb:

“First class place and people!”

And from Kevin:

“Had a great time! Amazing Lodge. staff, food, fishing, captain, mates and overall experience!”

They’re looking into return dates which say it all….

HAWA GROUP

Jan 9-11 it was great to catch up with the Hawa family again out of Beaumont Texas. It had been a few years so good to see them back here.

We had good fishing the first couple of days that slowly waned as the water changed though overall an excellent trip and good times. Over their 3 days on the water we raised 53 sailfish and released 38 from 47 bites as well as boating 9 larger mahi in the 20lb to 30lb range.

Another double header of sail’s, the small Bonze Lures Angel was kinda hot on the switch baiting.

ALEX & DAN

In for one day on Jan 4th to feel out the location and the boat we had a day on the fly with Alex on the rod and Dan on the camera.

Thanks for the great shots Dan. We had some good fishing in between raising 14 sailfish and releasing 3 from 7 bites on the fly as well as boating a nice 25lb bull mahi on the fly. Fun day!

JAN & NILS

January 2-3 we welcomed back Jan and Nils to the Lodge. Jan came down with a bit of a cold so left the fishing to Nils who had made the trek out from Sweden.

We had some fun fishing, the teamwork on the fly makes it all the more of a challenge and rewarding. Over 2 days we raised 44 sailfish and several mahi. When they come in to the spread in multiples it makes it tough when you have one angler, though Nils did great releasing 12 sailfish overall. Some fantastic bites and hot fish teasing in on the Bonze Angel once again…

Good to see them back and into a good bite!

RICHARD AND FAMILY

For their annual Christmas trip on December 27th, another good day on the water. They bring the luck does the Lee family…

We loaded up on dorado which was the target species for the day, found a nice honey hole and got into a bunch of nice ones.

And on top of that went 5 from 6 on sailfish. A fun day on the water with a great group from Guatemala City.

Fantastic day with plenty of fish to take home..

A good start to ’23 here in Guatemala. We did have a big cold front blow through the past couple of days and this really changed the water out there with the cooler water coming up from the displaced warmer water and we saw temperatures fall by 5-6’F. The is of course affected the bite, though things are calming down and the water is getting back on track with some reasonable fishing for the fleet yesterday.

We’re expecting the fishing to get back on track and a good late January through May is the norm. We have some availability in March and can accommodate on other boats for last minute trips in February. Other than that we have openings in April through. The blue marlin normally start coming through in numbers late April on.

Looking ahead we are staying open once again through the summer months into September, June through are some of our favorite months here. Last year we had a great tuna bite with fish in the 200lb+++ range, steady blue marlin fishing and the mahi and sailfish bite was off the wall in late July through August. These months are great for mixing it up and targeting different species.
