AWESOME APRIL THROUGH INTO EARLY MAY!!!!

KIRK & JO

May 5-6-7 The infamous Kirk with Jo Allen fished Intensity 3 days on the fly out of the Oasis. 10 sailfish released on the fly for Kirk and they focused on marlin their last day raising 3 blues!! Broke off a nice one, one didn’t switch to the fly and the last one stuck after a great bite with Kirk beating the fish in 2hrs 30mins……marathon effort !!!

However……it was Jo Allen who took out all the awards with the most sailfish on conventional tackle, the largest sailfish and the largest dorado (mahi-mahi). Nice going Kirk, but Jo won this one out…

NICK MAYER & DUNCAN BURNS

May 3-4-5 great to see Guatemala / Oasis and billfish on the fly first timers Duncan Burns and TBF Marine Artist of the Year Nick Mayer. For first timers they were at it like pros…..

For their trip we raised 46 sailfish and they released 14 sailfish from 25 bites. Some incredible bites and tough battles, we got all the fly’s back bar 1. Nick got in and released his fish swimming it down…awesome stuff! Good trip all ’round and we look fwd to seeing them back next year.

The hot fly for the few days was this creation tied by Nick, they wanted to kill it….

JASON DUHE GROUP

Steve, Bruce, Jason and Hali

May 1 & 2, in for a short x 2 day trip from Alabama we enjoyed hosting theses guys. More first timers to Guatemala and the Oasis / Allure II combo (thanks Weaver!!). They had good action for their 2 days on the water….

For their trip we raised 57 sailfish getting 48 bites on sailfish. We worked the bottom corner of the pocket looking for blue marlin and we raised 2 with Jason getting the release on this fatty…

ONE DAYER ON THE FLY

April 29th our angler for the day was interested in one thing only…..a blue marlin on the fly. With blue water pushing in we worked the bottom of the Pocket and got what we wished for…..

A tough, big fish on the fly. He did a superb job getting the release in 1hr and 52 mins. Great effort, awesome tease and bite on the fly all IGFA legal on 20lb tippet. We worked hard for another raising 6 sailfish but no more blues for the day.

JAY STUCKEY & GRANDSONS

Matt, Brian, Charlie and Jay

April 24-25-26 sure was good to see Jay back here at the Oasis with grandsons Brian and Matt DuPont and new comer to Guatemala young Charlie ‘Dorado’ Dillingham.

We raised 63 sailfish for the trip getting 57 bites on sailfish.

And Charlie Dorado lived up to his billing……

Jay rarely misses out on marlin here. We put the hours in working the bottom of the pocket and raised 2 blues with Jay doing great on the bite and hooking this feisty blue that had adrenaline levels pumping…

Fish wanted to get in the boat!

PLISOWSKI GROUP

April 19th this group came down from Antigua for a one day trip. A new bite had moved in from the SE and they made the most of it!!

They got into them good releasing 22 sailfish from 33 bites and boating a nice mahi to take back to Antigua…

TRAVIS, ASHLEY & MIKE

Mike with Ashley and Travis Howard

April 17-18 great to host these first timers from Austin to Guatemala as well. The Howard’s with Ashley’s dad Mike. To be fair the fishing was tough out there but we scratched a trip out of it…

For the trip we raised 11 sailfish and released 9 from 10 bites. The last fish of the second day was the day saver a nice blue marlin for Travis…..

JOHN & PAUL

April 17-18-19 John and Paul came in for 3 days of flyfishing. Experienced flats fisherman, first time chasing bills. Over their 3 days they released 5 sailfish and John got a nice striped marlin on the fly. Great accomplishment and both had a blast here at the Lodge and on board Intensity with Capt Mike….

RICHTER CREW

Ron and Debbie with Carol, Bobby and the mates boys Julio Jnr and Alejandro

April 12-14 great to see these guys back down here. Had a good time with the junior mates on the boat as well. Over their 4 days we raised 63 sailfish and had 56 bites as well as a couple of mahi in the bin. Also raised a couple of nice blue marlin that did not switch to the pitched mackerel.

ONE DAYER ON THE FLY

April 11 with our solo angler, the goal was blue marlin on the fly. We worked the east side of the pocket hard without success…at tthe end of the day we did find some good sailfish action with hot fish on the teasers and great bites!

Most of the action coming late in the day we raised 16 sailfish and released 5 from 7 bites, good fishing!!

RODNEY STRONG GROUP

April 8-9-10 fishing aboard Allure II and Intensity, these guys had good fishing releasing 83 sailfish and a few mahi boated. Good times with this Austin Group

We are fishing through June here in Guatemala. It’s a great time of year, the big tunas are out wide, the big mahi bite can be good, the blue marlin bite is strong and the sailfish are here year ’round. We’re predicting a strong blue marlin bite through June. We’re booked through end of May into early June though have openings from there on. It’s our favorite time of year to be out there……Get in on it:
