Guatemala’s blue marlin fishery is really good and really consistent. Were it not for the incredible sailfish numbers, blue marlin would be the headliner here.
We catch blue marlin in every calendar month that we fish. Sometimes they are here thick enough that we target blue marlin specifically. Much of the time, they crash the spread as we’re trolling for sailfish.

Our blue marlin average in the neighborhood of 250 to 350 pounds. A really big one is 600.
We catch most of them by dropping a pitch bait to fish on teasers. The fight is stand-up. It is super exciting.
The Allure II is equipped with tuna tubes as well. If we find a school of bonito or a floating log covered in bait, we’ll fill the tubes and live bait for blue marlin. This is a productive way to fish and a great way to catch big yellowfin and even big dorado.
The blue marlin fishing is consistent enough in Guatemala that most trips you might expect to have two or three marlin bites over the course of a few days fishing. When it’s good, we might catch two or three blues in a day.
Our lodge record for most blue marlin in a day, we released eight and raised 13.
Blue Marlin Season in Guatemala
May through August blue marlin are here in their best numbers. We’ll get waves of marlin throughout the year beyond that window.
There are not many places in the world that offer even the slightest chance to release 30 sailfish and two blue marlin in a trip—let alone a day. We can’t promise it will happen for you in Guatemala, but it happens quite a bit. And we are always ready when the opportunity presents itself.

We catch most of our blue marlin by baiting and switching. Dropping a bait to a lit-up blue marlin on a teaser is perhaps the most exciting thing in fishing. We’d love you how to do it.
