END OF FEBRUARY GUATEMALA FISH REPORT-SAILFISH OASIS

BUCKLEY GROUP

February 25-26th. It’s been a few years, so it was great to see the Buckley crew, Rihl, George and John back here at the Sailfish Oasis fishing aboard Allure II with Capt Jono, Julio and Enio, and this time introducing Gary and Walker to the fishing here in Guatemala.

They had good offshore activity over their weekend here with Jono teaching them the dead bait / circle hook techniques getting 24 sailfish bites and releasing 15. Some pretty good averages there!

Double header of sailfish.

Along with the sailfish they got into some big mahi-mahi, boating 5 up to the 30lb mark….

AOTEAROA CREW

Feb 21-22-24th the above crew chose Guatemala and Sailfish Oasis as this years fishing abroad destination. All the way from New Zealand, Michael, Nigel and Rayner fished 3 days aboard Allure II and mixed it up with tours down to beach bar Playa 14 on their lay-day, through Antigua and into the Flores visiting the ancient Mayan pyramids of Tikal and the Petén.

To the fishing. Over their 3 days on the water the guys raised 24 sailfish getting 20 to bite and released 16, they took a day out to chase tunas and released a nice blue marlin on the 30lb test along with 9 mahi mahi to 35lb for the trip.

A great time had on the coast as well as celebrating tour organizer, Nigel’s 50th birthday with mariachi’s and cocktails

From the fishing the guys spent a few days in Antigua with a motorbike tour and visiting the sites of this UNESCO World Heritage Site and then on to the jungle and Mayan ruins of the Petén. The team here at Sailfish Oasis can customize and take care of all the details of your Guatemalan adventure!

HERRING GROUP

February 18-20th another face we haven’t seen here for a few years, Fred Herring brought down Noble, Dan and David in from Houston for 3 days on the water and 4 nights at the Lodge.

Happy to see some good fishing the first day and it remained steady with 39 sailfish raised in 3 days they released 17 from 34 bites and boated 9 large mahi. Good fishing all round.

Happy days. Some good laughs on the water and at the Oasis Lodge. We’re looking forward to their return trip this July.

We’re back out there today March 1st with the x 3 boat Chasco Group and then it is pretty much full on through the rest of the month, we do have March 10-11th available on Allure II and there are prime dates available through April into May. As the season rolls on we’re expecting the water temperatures to get back to normal and the bite to pick up as it does. Spring and summer brings in the blue marlin, a typically good sailfish bite, big yellowfin tuna and mahi mahi around the flotsam. We are looking to fish through into early September so shoot us an e-mail to get in on these variety filled months!
