FISHING THROUGH END OF JANUARY ’18

RREAF GROUP

January 28-30th we hosted the above group from Dallas, Texas for 3 days of (catching) fishing aboard Allure II, Capt Hook and Makina. Just when I called it a dying bite they started snapping……

And the bite got progressively better each day for them. They ended up with 204 sailfish released from 337 bites, 1 black marlin est at 500lb for the guys on the Hook…

And no shortage of large mahi mahi between 20-35lb.

Their previous 3 day total of 181 billfish in 3 days well and truly beaten….an awesome time had by all.

LONSDALE & SHINKLE

Brian Shinkle and Tim Lonsdale

Can’t get enough of the place these two, regulars now for many years and good times always with Brians 3rd trip down since October and Tim’s second. Between 24th and 27th Jan they had a blast with flat seas and good fishing, releasing 45 from 74 on sailfish….

Brian’s getting into the habit of releasing a blue marlin every trip and did so again….

Then there was the mahi bite……it was full on, and they were all large fish, pack attacks…..

NICK HARDIN GROUP

January 23-25th the above group fished the Capt Hook and crushed it releasing 44 sailfish from 62 bites, 1 striped marlin and plenty of mahi’s in the mix…

Cool pic guys!

Lunch…

LONSDALE/CLARIDGE/JOLLY

Jan 22-23 fished with these guys. Good times. Regular Terence Lonsdale introduced a couple of Kiwi fellas to Guatemala…..as coincidence would have it, from my home town in NZ, hows that.

Good fishing as well with 63 sailfish in the spread over the 2 days on the water and 3 blue marlin.

And then there were the mahi’s…..

A nice pair of ’em

RIATA GROUP

January 19-21: Great to host the above group from Dallas for 3 days of fishing aboard the Allure II, Capt Hook, Danmark and Makina. A bit tough out there the first couple of days though it got better and our last day on the water was what Guatemala is about.

They released 69 sailfish….

One blue marlin from several encounters….

13 large mahi’s….

And 3 Yellow Fin Tuna…

With the Mariachis on their last night at the Lodge.

ONE DAY ON THE WATER

With this crew on Jan 18th, we went wide looking and found some fish at the end of the day, raising 15 sailfish and releasing 5 from 10 bites as well as boating a 20lb bull mahi for lunch..

PRASEK GROUP

Troy and Rea with Josh and Laura

Jan 16-17 on the water with our group from South Texas / Port O’Conner. A bit tough out there though we scratched a trip out of it with 9 sailfish released from 9 bites…..100%!!

And also 100% on blue marlin with Rea going 1 for 1 on a nice fish released on the 30lb test, a tough one that took her over an hour + to get boat side, nice going Rea….

And 3 from 3 on mahi’s. Talk about making the most of your opportunities….

Laura with her’s

And Troy with his…

LOWRANCE/KING/WESSON

Chuck King with a fat sailfish on the fly….

Jan 13-15 it was great to fish with Will Lowrence, Chuck King and Dan Wesson again. Has to be said though, it was tough out there. Plenty of bait balls marked on the sounder and there were some fish about though from the 25 raised over the 3 days, we only cast the fly to about 5 of them. They wouldn’t tease for shit. Come in half way and disappear….tough on the fly!

DEMARTINO FAMILY

Don DeMartino and family were down fishing January 11-12. Over 2 days they released 13 sailfish, raised a blue marlin that didn’t switch and boated a few mahi’s including this one for Rebecca…

A fishy family….

There you go. A bit of a tough start to January though it finished strong with some very good fishing out there for our last 5 groups through the Lodge. We’re starting to book up through April and we’re predicting a strong late season through the summer months here in Guatemala. It’s going to happen, so get down and get amongst it….
