FISHING THROUGH MARCH 31st – Haizlip Group

HAIZLIP GROUP

Kelly Haizlip, Frank Williford and Anders Kihlberg

March 29th-31st we hosted the above group for their first trip to Guatemala with Kelly and Frank coming in from Houston and Anders all the way from Sweden. Good fishing as well with 82 sailfish being raised over the 3 days, 2 striped marlin and a few dorado. From that the guys released 32 sailfish, 1 striped marlin and boated a nice 25lb+ bull dorado. A lot of hard to tease and switch to the baits fish out there!

And this from Frank Williford:

“Thank you for your hospitality during our recent stay at Sailfish Oasis!  Your staff and facilities are on a par with what I consider to be one of the best in the business, Tropic Star in Panama, and I commend you on running a top-notch operation.  We are already talking about dates to return next year……”

GUY & ELSIE ANTTILA

March 26th-31st, all the way from Atlin, British Colombia we welcomed Guy and Elsie in for 6 days of fly fishing aboard Makina and Capt Hook. A lot fish out there in the teasers, though with all the bait, very hard to tease all the way in and then to bite the fly.

Guy did a great job with the few opportunities he had releasing double figures of sailfish including a banner day aboard the Makina releasing 2 striped marlin and 3 sailfish on day 3 of their trip. That’s an awesome day…..Congratulations Guy!

TEAM PANACEA

March 26-28th great to see the above crew back down here from Freeport, Texas. Fishing aboard Allure II and Capt Hook they again, timed their trip spot on.

Sailfish

Over the 3 days the fishing just got better every day, again, some hard to convert raises/bites though all in all an incredible trip for them releasing 111 sailfish and 2 striped marlin…

Stripey

On our last day out we fished massive wads of bait like this and they started snapping, on Allure II we raised 90 sailfish and had 67 bites!! Incredible day seeing the fish were a 2hr+ run to get out there….

Double header for Kate and Gretchen

Chad on the leader…

Flat seas and a great bite….

Counting down to the Texas Billfish classic out of Freeport 1st weekend of August….

Awesome time as always and nice going on a well timed trip!!

JIM MILLS GROUP

March 22nd-25th, Nice to meet Jim Mills, at 85 years old, still into it with a fishing adventure to Guatemala along with his support  crew, brother Jon and Lisa Mills and Christopher Stolzer.

In action…..

And the result….

A leisurely trip for the crew, leaving the dock between 10-11:00am every morning, the fishing was all at 15-20nm and over their time here we raised 70 sailfish and several mahi mahi…..

 On the fly……

And Lisa with another nice mahi.

BOBBY RICHTER GROUP # 2

Jonathan Myers and Lucius Edwards

March 18th-21st good to see Booby back down here for trip # 2 this time with son Bryan and as above, Jonathan and Lucius….

Good fishing for the crew from Port Aransas as well with 103 sailfish in the spread over their trip along with plenty of large mahi mahi. We mixed it up between conventional and the fly, a bit tough on the fly with the raise to bite ratio on the low side…..too much bait the problem…

New meaning to the term double fisting…..Bobby with a double.

Lucius re-hydrating with an ice cold Modelo….

Bryan on the fly….

Though well worth it with the ones that did come in on the fly giving us some wicked, aggressive bites.

They were biting on the baits pretty well, their best day going 24 from 36 and 7 large mahi’s….Good times all ’round!!

That is good, consistent fishing right there. We’ve been on bites till they start fading and inevitably a new body of bait/fish has been found keeping the fishing good. With all the small bait out there the hot teasers for us have been the smaller Bonze Lures, Merlin, The Heat and D-Shackle with a ballyhoo rigged inside…. red hot.

Looking forward to April and beyond and breaking out the bigger teasers……Don’t look past the summer months, great variety with tunas, mahi’s and more marlin in the mix as well as a steady as always sailfish bite.
