HBGFC GROUP

The Houston Big Game Fishing Club auctions off a trip every year at their Annual Banquet and these guys out-bid at a lively auction to reserve their spot here with us in Guatemala. They added on Capt Hook as the group grew to 8.

2 days on the water for them produced 21 sailfish releases from 47 bites and a blue marlin bite….

And good times galore at the Lodge!

DEC 10-11-12 GROUP

Fishing 3 days aboard Allure this group went 16 from 21 on sailfish and 2 from 3 on blue marlin.

Another great vid here captured by Tristan piloting the drone…The blue got bill wrapped when it bit the pitched bonito, jumped a couple of times and then threw the bait. Normally we’d shrug and say, well that fish aint coming back….. But, Capt Jono’s son Tristan kept an eye on the fish with his drone as it picked at the scraps of the bonito.  Directing Jono to where the fish was, on the drive by the fish zoned in on the trolled ballyhoo bait in the rigger and they got the bite. The angler dropped back and came tight, and released the fish on 30lb line with 100lb wind on to 80lb trace to the hook. Unbelievable footage!!! Awesome vid and shots Tristan. Watch closely and check this out out:

GUATEMALA BILLFISH INVITATIONAL

We hosted the above group for 6 nights at the Lodge and 4 days on the water for the ever growing Invitational Tournament. With 6 from 7 bites on their practice day it was looking good!

For the tournament after 2 days they’d had their chances to be leading but were sitting in second spot with 25 releases from 58 bites and a striped marlin released. Plenty of bites there.

On their last day out further west was the call and it produced 2 blue marlin and 3 from 4 bites on sailfish. A great day but not enough being just pipped into 4th spot overall. An epic blue marlin bite captured by Capt Jono’s son Tristan. Check this out….

And a few epic pics to boot.

BOBBY & CAROL!

Bobby and Carol with their Coke Zero teaser…

Everyone here enjoys it when Bobby and Carol come down to visit, so we invited him for his birthday week including 4 days on the water.

Mixing it up as per usual as they do they released 34 from 61 bites on sailfish.

On their last day out at Bobby’s request Jono put together a couple of teasers, one with the Coke Zero can head on Carols side and one with the Busch Lite can head on Bobby’s side. Check out the results…

A hot striped marlin came up on the Coke Zero can teaser and they got the release. Classic.

And celebrated Bobby’s birthday in style with a Busch Lite Piñata..

Check out the full vid. Pretty work Tristan once again.

Well that’s a wrap till Christmas and the crew will be back at it again on December 27th. We still have some prime dates available in March. In the meantime, a very Merry Christmas to everyone.

We’re happy top see Tristan Nicholas, Capt Jono’s son down in Guate once again. He is a maestro on the camera and drone and can custom make a video for anyone wanting his services all done and edited before you leave!

On a sad note, we were devastated on hearing the news of the passing of David Salazar, owner of Casa Vieja Lodge. Loving husband of Kristen and father of Ava, Vera, Kira and Mika and a great friend of many. He will be missed down here, by many.

Cheers Dave, a truly legendary Pirate
