Guatemala Fishing Through February 22nd

Jason Week / Corpus Christi Group

February 4th-6th the old Super Bowl Weekend group this year evolved into the Pre Super Bowl Weekend group. Lots of new faces but the same good times with the Corpus Christi Crew.

Fishing aboard Allure II, Capt Hook, Intensity and Tuna Bite the group released 74 sailfish, 1 blue marlin with some tuna and mahi mahi in the mix. We all went far and wide looking for the ‘bite’ but a pick was all that could be found. Still plenty of billfish for all and the side pots kept it interesting. Great to see the tradition of ‘Giving Back’ continued with the group raising $2820 for the local Centro de Salud. Good job fellas, the local community appreciates it greatly.

Lonsdale's

February 7th-10th. It was great to see our old mate Tim Lonsdale from London back in Guatemala for the first time in a couple of years. 2021 was a tough on for Tim so a few days on the water with his son Terence helped the healing…

And they had good fishing with plenty of sailfish bites and 3 marlin bites, this from Terence:

“Just wrapped up 4 great days of fishing and 5 nights at Sailfish Oasis and on Allure II. We ended up with a 10 sailfish a day release average and a beautiful striped marlin to boot. Great crew on the boat and an amazing team at the Lodge.”

Tim has been a regular here in Guatemala for near on 20 years and we’re hoping to see him back here enjoying this incredible fishing again soon.

Robichaux Group

February 11-13th good to see Todd and his crew back after their great trip last year. A bit tougher out there this time around with a strong WSW current stirring things up with clean green cool water the best to be found.

We still made a trip of it raising 20 sailfish and getting a 300lb blue marlin biting the mackerel pitch bait along with a couple of nice mahi mahi.

“Awesome time! Everything was great, the food was excellent and the staff extremely friendly and made us comfortable. Thank you for the awesome time and we will definitely be back.”

Smith 'n Suzy

Feb 15-18th. Sure was great to catch up with this couple after another forced 2 year absence, never short of laughs with these 2 on the boat.

Returning for their 5th visit to the Oasis the Ragsdales know the mates well so invited their sons Alejandro (age 12) and Julio Jnr (age 7) to join them. While the boys learned the ins and outs of fishing, they were also put to the test of catching fish. Alejandro released 3 sailfish while Juliocito released 1. More than enough sailfish were released to keep smiles on everyones faces. A large blue marlin crashed the short teasers and switched to the bait to add to the excitement. The Ragsdales have already reserved dates for 2023

Lowrance Group

Feb 19-21 been a few years since we caught up with Chuck and Will, this time along with WIll’s son Tom and John. They’ve experienced Guatemala at its best, so know how it is. We mixed it up between fly and conventional raising 20 sailfish and a blue marlin in the 250lb class. They all got into fish, had a blast and are talking up their return trip so that’s what its all about.

Heard & Pearce

Feb 20-22 fishing aboard Uno Mas and Allure II they all had an excellent of shore adventure with mahi mahi, sailfish and blue marlin.

All the kids caught sailfish, Denman Heard released a nice 400lb blue marlin, we missed 2 other blue marlin in the same weight category and Keylan boated a nice mahi mahi. And Capt Gavin took us home…
