Allure II travelled to El Salvador to participate in the 30th El Salvador International Billfish Tournament with the A Team of Alvaro, Diego, Pablo and Rodrigo representing Club Nautico de Guatemala.

They smashed it!!! Capt Jono followed his instincts running to the east away from the fleet and found the fish and his team missed very few opportunities. In the end running away with it with 65 sailfish releases and 1 blue marlin tagged and released for a total of 7025 pts, 1400 pts above the second placed team in the Billfish Category.
A HUGE congratulations to the ‘A Team’ and Capt Jono, and mates Julio and Enio Landivar. We don’t like to brag, however, that is 3 times Allure has travelled to El Salvador and 3 times it has won the Billfish Category. The boat did not fish the tournament last year though it did in 2022 which they also won. Capt Jono up there with the best of the best winning twice the past 2 times he has taken the boat across and fished there in El Sal. Incredible stuff!! John and his wife Susan came down for 2 days of fishing and 3 nights to the Oasis. John fished solo with Capt Kennedy aboard Typhoon while Susan took some surf lessons with Lodge manager and surf maestra Laura.
John enjoyed incredible fishing and Susan enjoyed some great waves!
Over his 2 days on the water John released an incredible 52 sailfish from 77 bites and 1 striped marlin!! Amazing stuff, this from John:

The blue marlin were biting like very rarely seen in Guatemala, perhaps some of there best numbers we have ever seen coming from the fleet. Some incredible fishing!
And they made the most of it. From the 12 blue marlin raised they released 6 from 8 bites and also went 21 from 36 on sailfish along with a couple of mahi mahi in the boat. That’s a special trip right there!!

Martin Verchere and friends joined Capt Jono and the crew for a one day trip and released 1 striped marlin and had plenty of practice on the sailfish releasing 9 from 36 bites. It’s a great place to learn!!!! There’s some shots at fish right there.

A short morning of fishing for these guys, back at the dock before midday with 1 blue marlin, 1 sailfish and 1 mahi mahi aboard. Not many places in the world you can do that in a couple of hours fishing just 10nm off the beach!!!

Another group that let the dock at 0830 and were back at the dock by 1200, the main bite was offshore to 40nm so they pounded the bottom of the pocket releasing a blue marlin and a sailfish. Plenty of whales, porpoise and marine life out there for the crew as well.

And to kick the season off we were happy to see Shane and Caroline all the way from New Zealand finally get to fish with us here in Guatemala. They initially had their trip planned for July 2020 before covid put a spanner in the works…..

They fished with Capt Kennedy for 3 days. The first day raising 4 blue marlin with none of them switching to the pitch baits, frustrating stuff right there. The rest of the trip was far from frustrating with 34 sailfish releases from 58 bites!

From the Oasis they spent a couple of nights in the Spanish Colonial city of Antigua before heading across to Tikal to visit the Mayan ruins and finishing up with a couple of nights on Lake Peten Itza.
By our count that is 13 full days and 2 half days of fishing for 192 sailfish, 9 blue marlin and 2 striped marlin released!! This season is shaping up to be a cracker, get down and be a part of it, we have December 31st and January 1-2-3 open. What better way to bring in 2025 than at the Lodge enjoying the best billfishing in World, beautiful climate, cocktails by the pool, huge fireworks to bring in the New Year at the best boutique Lodge in Guatemala.
