Guatemala is a wonderland. We always enjoy fishing here. There are times, however, that remind us just how fortunate we are to run a lodge in this part of the world.
This summer we experienced a marlin bite that was just such an occasion. But there’s much more to Sailfish Oasis than just the fishing.

Our team—Captain Jono, the mates, Lodge Manager Laura, Chef Carlos, Daisy and everyone who helps make Sailfish Oasis possible—is hard at it. Liz and I thought we might take the occasion to invite you down to see what it’s all about.
We’ve got open dates in November and December. Building into the peak of sailfish season, these are great times to fish in Guatemala. A wonderful occasion to spend some quality time with a few of your favorite people, teasing up sailfish, blue marlin, and dorado—there should be some big tuna around too.
Open Dates
Known as the land of eternal spring, Guatemala is tropical. In winter, the fishing can be excellent and the only thing cold will be the cooler full of beer (and of course the cocktails at the bar).
August: An Epic Blue Marlin Bite
Late summer and early fall are one of my favorite times of year in Guatemala. It certainly did not disappoint this year.
June through August was wide open. We’ve had incredible fishing and finished in August with the best blue marlin bite I have seen here.
In August, the Allure II fished 12 days. We released 21 blue marlin out of 36 bites.
Our best day, fishing with one angler, Jay Stuckey and his wife Ira, we raised nine blues. Jay caught five out of seven bites.
That’s fishing the way it used to be. Trolling the edge, hunting the fish. No FADs, no floaters.
We have open dates in June, July and August 2026. It’s one of my favorite times of year to fish here.
In addition to the blue marlin, the sailfish, mahi, and yellowfin have been consistent right through from June to August. It’s been good fishing—the type that put Guatemala on the map.

November and December
The winter is a good time to fish Guatemala too. Peak sailfish season starts around late October, into November, December and on.
That’s when the sailfish are here in numbers. The blue marlin bite can be good. This time of year, we catch plenty of dorado and big yellowfin.

Captain Jono is great. Our guests who are experienced billfish anglers appreciate how knowledgeable he is. He’s fished around the world, in Madeira and many other of the world’s best offshore destinations.
He uses his skillset to help make even experienced anglers better. Our guests who are newer to billfish appreciate his laid-back approach and his skill in teaching anglers how to hook fish themselves.
The Full Guatemala Experience: Curated for You

I am proud that Sailfish Oasis has earned the reputation for not just catching fish, but for tailoring the guest experience to the anglers who fish with us. Here’s some context.
If you’d like to learn how to pitch and hook fish yourself, we’d love to teach you. Our crew is expert in this regard. For those who’d like the mates to hook the fish and hand the rod, we can do that too.
We are here to make your experience the type that you’d most enjoy. We have a good time doing it and are proud to share Guatemala’s incredible fishery with the clients who make what we do possible.
Exciting Things in the Works

Beyond the fishing and guest experience, we have some good things in the works. In the coming months, you’ll notice a few things on our end. This is a bit of a teaser, but you’ll see the results soon.
In the meantime, we’d love to put you on the action. Come and see us.
