Striped Marlin, Black Marlin

Sailfish and blue marlin are far and away the most common billfish we encounter in Guatemala. Every once in a while we have a wave of striped marlin move through. You can’t plan on catching or targeting them, but they are great fun when they show up in the spread.

Black marlin are similar. We catch a black every now and again. Sometimes on the troll, sometimes livebaiting. When a black shows up, it’s generally in the 300-400 pound range. 

For us, striped marlin and blacks are a bonus. When we catch one, we have a great shot at a grand slam.
